I'm excited to be guest hosting Teja Gerken's Acoustic Guitar Showcase on Wednesday, June 30th. I will be bringing my friend Shaun Cromwell up from LA and Cahalen Morrison from Seattle.
Shaun is an especially intriguing fingerstyle player. I met him last November at a regional folk conference where he was a featured performer. He has gained a reputation as a serious musician, an excellent picker and songwriter. I personally love the feel he gives his tunes and marvel at hislyrics. I did a video of him playing which I have posted on my YouTube channel: youtube.com/MokaiMusic/ It's well worth watching to see how he uses adroit picking, rich imagery and rootsy singing to great effect.
This evening is even more geographically important for the presence of Cahalen Morrison an intense young, touring musician getting notice nationally for playing 'Old-Timey & New-Fangled' music. He's a multi-instrumentalist, so expect anything from six-string fingerstyle, to claw-hammer banjo, mandolin, and lap slide guitar. Since he's from Seattle it makes this a kind of 'West Coast Fingerstyle Showcase'.
The Bazaar Cafe is known for presenting good acoustic music. There's no PA and no talking or computer use during performances. Come early and hungry, the place has good cafe food, including some japanese cuisine, like japanese style curry and chicken teriaki, as well as salads and such. Good beer and wine selection. Allow plenty of time for Parking, or take the bus!
