Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
5/25/11

Greetings Riders,

Well, we are back to the real world from our 30th anniversary trip to Kauai, HI. Definitely a different pace in Phoenix from the laid back island style. If you missed the newsletter last week you might want to take a look at it. Click Here. I gave you a brief history of Tammy and my life together over the last 30 years you might find interesting. Thanks for all of the replies of congrats and well wishes.

It was a great trip combining a helicopter ride which landed at Jurassic Falls, renting a Harley for a couple of days, some exploration of the island in a jeep, one 35 foot cliff jump and some plain old doing nothing by the pool and beach, which is a rare but enjoyable thing in our world. It was a wonderful trip and I can't think of a better place to celebrate hitting the milestone of 30 years of marriage. As usual I took over 1200 photos and will share the trip and pics with you hopefully next week. Until then, here are a couple of teasers of the helicopter ride. Click Here.

But for this week I am playing catch up from being gone for the last week and from the unpleasant occurrence of a full computer failure last Wednesday night. Whatever happened took out everything including the motherboard and completely fried the hard drive. Data Doctors said it would cost $1000 to recapture the data. Fortunately I was diligent in backing up my computer on a daily basis. That was a huge blessing in that I didn't lose any photos or important data, except for that day, but it still doesn't mitigate the fact that I had to spend $800 on a new computer and then spend the hours that it takes to load all of the programs and put it back together the way that it needs to be. Since I left just 3 days after it happened, I am still getting back in business.

One thing that has become even more apparent after going through this exercise is how reliant we are on Login and Passwords. Don't you find it impossible to remember all of them and a huge challenge just to keep track of them? The good news is that when it is completed I will be up to date and have a fresh start in the computing world. After going through this, I would suggest doing backup's on your own computer. USB drives are very cheap right now. Just get one and use a free little program called Karen's Replicator or something similar. It will back up just the files that have changed every night on the schedule that you set up for it. You never know when it is going to happen, but it will. If you have a catastrophic failure like I did, you will be glad you did.

This weekend we are getting back on the bikes for a little 1100 mile ride through the Salt River Canyon to Alpine, down the Catalina Highway to Silver City then over to the Chiricahua National Monument to Bisbee, a stop by Kartchner Caverns and back to Phoenix. We will be going through a lot of my favorite places on this trip. If you are looking for some ride ideas this weekend, check out the Day Rides page.

But before you go, be sure to stop by the Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike Night this Thursday night, May 26th for our big Memorial Day celebration to honor our fallen. To make this the special day that it deserves to be, we are really putting on a big party for this night. Valley favorite "Mogollon" is our special musical guest. They should really rock Westgate for bike night. I also have planned a 15 minute Memorial Day program utilizing the giant LED screen at Westgate that you will not want to miss. This will be followed by Mogollon playing their 15 minute patriotic set that is truly inspiring and will give Memorial Day the celebration that it deserves! The program kicks off at 7:15 pm with the Patriot Guard leading the way. Mogollon will start their first set at around 6:15pm. Get there early and get your spot on Coyote Blvd. I am really looking forward to this night. See you there!

This will be well worth the ride from all parts of the valley to participate in this event to honor our fallen troops while sharing our love of this great country. The night will rekindle your patriotic spirit. Send this to your riding buddies and post on your rider sites. We need to show support to our troops and honor our fallen. Hope to see you there.

For 2 years I have been looking for a great bike night location on the East side that would be comparable to the Westgate location. There is only one location in the valley that has a setup like Westgate, but Mesa Riverview, located at the Loop 202 and Dobson Rd. has the next best venue available to host a bike night. I wanted a location that is new, clean, attractive, well lit at night, has plenty of places to go eat and have fun, and could create that critical mass of excitement in one location. This is private property, so the management has agreed to close the street for 2 blocks in the complex from Bass Pro to the theatre. This will be utilized for motorcycle only traffic and parking. The great thing about Mesa Riverview is that they have 3 GREAT restaurants on the 3 corners in the middle of the 2 blocks plus 3 more within a few hundred feet.

These locations are Toby Keith's Bar and Grill with 18,000 square feet of Restaurant, 85 Foot Guitar Shaped Bar, Live Music, Dance Floor, Tv's And Outdoor Patio And Beer Served In Mason Jars.

Across the street from Toby's is the brand new 14,000 square foot Cactus Moon Sports Grill featuring 12 pool tables, Forty eight 65" plasma screen tv's, a huge bar in the middle, a dance floor and a Huge outdoor patio.
The other corner across from Cactus Moon is Matta's Grill & Cantina featuring 5,000 square feet, 2 floors of great Mexican food dining, a great bar, beautiful interior design and an outdoor patio.
Within a few hundred feet of walking distance from the street parking is Chili's and Famous Dave's. All of these restaurants will have Bike Night specials and are welcoming riders from all over the valley to a fun Friday night at Mesa Riverview located at the Loop 202 and Dobson Rd. in Mesa. There is also a Gyro shop at the end of the street by the theatre and a Yogurt shop next to Matta's.
CLICK HERE to see photos of these great restaurants.
If you would like to be a vendor at this bike night, email me at info@cyclerides.com .
