Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
3/21/12

Greetings Riders,

If you missed the Weekly Update last week, you can click here to read. As a reminder to those that did read it, the Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike Night presented by the Law Tigers will begin the Spring season on Thursday, March 29th and will continue with 14 consecutive Thursday nights through June 28th. Don’t miss the first night, it should be huge! See details below.

I’ve been trying to come up with a good way to purvey all of the Arizona Bike Week activities and other events going on that week in one concise way. If I list all the events here, it just turns into information overload. The fact of the matter is that there are so many events going on at any given time, that you couldn’t possibly do them all, so I just decided to list in the newsletter a few of the highlighted events over the next 10 days. From there you can go to the Arizona Bike Week Event Page to see details of all of their events. You can also go to the Cyclerides.com Event Page to see some other events going on.

This is exactly what I did last night. I went through each day of the ABW events page to familiarize myself with details and then to the Cyclerides page to try and get a handle on what we would be doing. Like I said above, there are so many choices that it would be impossible to do them all, so I am just going to give you a little snapshot of what my week might look like. And even this itinerary is subject to change with some visits to other events if possible. But if you happen to be at any of these, look me up to say Hey!

My Personal Itinerary:

Friday: March 23rd - Chester’s Backstage Biker Bash for the kickoff party.

Saturday: March 24th - Stop by the MMI Bike Week Open House to see the Custom Bike Shop competition. Stop by the American Legion Riders Tribute to Kimmy Chapman in Fountain Hills. Go to the Buddy Stubbs Bike Week Bash where I will be helping judge the Bikini Contest at 3:45 PM. Then to Chester’s HD for the Molly Hatchet/Blackfoot concert.

Sunday: March 25th - We will do the loop out to The Hideaway to see the AZ Builder’s Bash and then on to Greasewood for the Bike Week Music Festival before finishing out the afternoon at the Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale 1st Annual Sunday Blast Off Party for the Bret Michaels concert at 7 PM.

Wednesday: March 28th - Wednesday’s Riding for Kids at Buddy Stubbs. Nice 230 mile ride through Northern Arizona.

Thursday: March 29th - Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike Night Presented by The Law Tigers. Come help us kick off the first Bike Night of the season. 5-9 PM. Live Music with Sour Diesel Trainwreck, Vendors, LOTS of BIKES! Then head out to the Puddle of Mudd concert at Westworld.

Friday: March 30th - The Hamsters Charity “Dry Heat” Run! This is a huge run that begins at Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation and goes to Greasewood Flat. Friday night we will be at Cyclefest to see the REO Speedwagon concert.

Saturday: March 31st - The 13th Annual Torch Ride. We will be helping lead this Escorted ride with the Outlaws band members for a scenic ride to Chester’s HD for the Outlaws concert. We will then be off to Cyclefest to enter the Mako Glide into Baddest Bagger Bike Show presented by Bagger Nation and American Bagger magazine. Another good ride would be the “Puttin for Pooches” ride for the Humane Society leaving from Chandler Harley-Davidson.

Sunday: April 1st - We will be helping lead the 1st Annual Crusaders for the Children “Child Empowerment Ride” from Arrowhead Harley-Davidson to Cyclefest with Opie and Lyla from the “Sons of Anarchy” TV show. This is now going to be an Escorted ride. Opie and Lyla will be available for Photo Op’s at both locations. Then will head down to Chester’s to see Mogollon in Concert at the end of Lagan’s Ride.

As I said before, it is impossible to do everything, but this is just what it looks like through my eyes at this time. There are plenty of good events and a lot of people including dealerships, businesses and Arizona Bikeweek are stepping up to make this what could be one of the best Arizona Bikeweek’s so far. I look forward to seeing you on the road and at the events.

Tidbits and Updates:

Kimmy Chapman Memory.
With ABW rolling around again, I can’t help but think about the shocking news I got last year on the first Saturday of bike week. Late afternoon on March 26th, 2011 I learned that Kimmy Chapman, founder of the Biker Information Guide, had been killed in a motorcycle accident. (See Story) She was always such a fixture during bike week that it just wasn’t the same not seeing her around. As we go into the start of bike week again, I will reflect back to the last time that I saw her on Friday night at the Chester’s Back Stage Biker Bash. Let’s all use her memory as a reminder to be EXTRA CAREFUL when riding this year and be responsible with drinking before getting on your bike. We don’t want to lose any more great souls like Kimmy Chapman. We all miss you Kimmy.

Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike Night presented by the Law Tigers.
The opening night this year should be a big one with not only riders, but we are sharing it with a Coyote game on the same night. To celebrate the opening of Bike Night, the Coyotes are offering $40 upper level seats for only $20. So if you have never seen an NHL Hockey game or been in Jobing.com arena to see the ice, this would be a good opportunity to at least go in and watch a period of professional hockey. Simply go to www.phoenixcoyotes.com/bikenight and put in the special offer code “puck” to create the account to order your discounted tickets. Parking is free for motorcycles. (See Flyer)

To kick off bike night this season we will be featuring the newest creations of Jim Nasi Custom Motorcycles as well as bringing back crowd favorite “Sour Diesel Trainwreck” featuring their silky smooth southern rock covers and well as their own music. If you haven’t seen these guys before, you are in for a real treat.

I am really excited to kick off the Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike Night again this year and look forward to seeing all of my bike night friends again. So grab your riding buddies and stop by to help me kick it off! Should be a fun night and a great season as we have top notch bands and special attractions planned for you along the way. Plan on making the trip out to help us get started on another bike night season. This will still leave you plenty of time to get out to Westworld to see the Puddle of Mud concert at Westworld at 9 PM.

Here are the details for the Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike Night presented by The Law Tigers:
